RAID level 1 uses at least two hard drives and duplicates the data stored between them. This is the slowest method of configuring a RAID system, however it provides the highest level of fault tolerance because as the data is replicated onto two disks at the same time.
If one of the mirrored drives suffers a mechanical failure or does not respond, the remaining drive will continue to serve and provide correct data. If one drive has a physical sector error, the mirrored drive will continue to function.
Due to redundancy, the drive capacity of the array is half the total drive capacity. For example, two 80GB drives that have a combined capacity of 160GB would have 80GB of usable storage. With drives of different capacities, there may be unused capacity on the larger drive. RAID 1 increases cost as it takes twice as much hard drives to build our arrays.
Fields Data Recovery offers the UK and Europe’s leading & fastest data recovery solution to lost data on these RAID systems, often returning data to customers within 24 Hours. For emergency assistance please call 0800 083 7891.
“I am not technical at all and was a bit wary of contacting a data recovery company when I lost all my work, but the staff at Fields really put me at ease. My files are now recovered and I am a very happy customer!”
